Learn how to identify a failing screw cap on your alfi insulated container, replace it with the polished stainless steel Drehverschluss 5457, and keep it working smoothly.
Quick answer
If your alfi insulated container leaks or the cap feels loose, the Drehverschluss Edelstahl 5457 is the direct replacement part for 0.50 l and 0.75 l models. Replace it yourself in minutes.
Why the cap wears out
Over time, the threaded plastic insert inside the stainless steel cap can crack or lose its grip, especially if the container has been dropped or over-tightened. Silicone seals also harden after years of use, reducing the leak-proof seal.
Trade-off: buying the cap alone vs. a full lid assembly
The Drehverschluss 5457 is a spare part only; it does not include a new seal or a pour spout. If your container’s seal is also worn, you will need to order a separate seal. For a quick fix, the cap alone is cheaper than a full lid assembly.
Diagnosis & corrective action
- Symptom: Liquid seeps out around the cap when the container is tilted, or the cap spins without tightening.
- Likely cause: Cracked plastic thread insert inside the cap or a hardened silicone seal.
- Corrective action: Unscrew the old cap. Inspect the seal; replace it if cracked or flattened. Screw on the new Drehverschluss 5457 hand-tight until it seats firmly. Do not overtighten. If the container still leaks after replacing the cap, the seal is the issue.
- When to stop: If the container body is dented or the glass insert is cracked, stop. No cap replacement will fix structural damage; recycle the container.
